Welcome

Here you will find out about Alex and Robyn's progress along the 350 km Alpine Pass Route, crossing Switzerland border-to-border, from Sargans in the East to Montreux in the West. Along the way, we will be crossing 16 passes with total ascent almost 20,000 m.

You can find out a lot of interesting information about the Alpine Pass Route here. We are following two main guide books, Alpine Pass Route by Kev Reynolds, published by Cicerone, and Walking in Switzerland by Clem Lindenmayer, published by Lonely Planet. In fact, it was the latter book, which we used while we were living in Switzerland that got us interested in doing the whole Route. In fact we have already done a number of stages back in 1997!

You can look at the entire route in Google Earth courtesy of this 10 kb kmz file.

  1. Hi,

I found this blog completely by accident, and enjoyed browsing through it, having attempted the route myself in 2010. I only made it as far as Grindelwald though, because of a sore ankle. It looks like you had almost as much rain as I did ;-)

A description of my route is here if you're interested: http://isitmuchfurther.blogspot.ch/2010/07/from-sargans-to-grindelwald-on-via.html
